DAHI HANDI CELEBRATED

31 Aug 2021 05:35 PM

Dahi Handi was celebrated in the state on Tuesday albeit under coiv mandated SOPS. Dahi Handi, also known as Gopal Kala or Utlotsavam is associated with Krishna Janmashtami, which celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna.

The event takes place on the day after Janmashtami and involves the hanging of a  clay pot filled with dahi at a height where young men and boys form teams, make a human pyramid, and attempt to reach or break the pot. The event is based on the legend of the god Krishna along with his friends stealing butter and curd from neighbouring homes in Gokul as a child.
