Torrential rainfall continues to batter most of North India after IMD issued Red alert for many districts of Uttarakand while yellow alerts were issued for 8 districts of Himachal Pradesh following the monsoon’s relentless impact on the states.




Amidst heavy rainfall, IMD has issued a red alert for many districts of Uttarakhand while adding that the state is likely to receive more than 204mm of rainfall on August 13-14. It has further warned of localized flooding and landslides. Earlier, 5 pilgrims were killed after a car they were traveling in was buried under the debris of a landslide at Tarasali under ChowkiPhata in Uttarakhand’sRudraprayag district, informed police on Saturday.

Heavy rainfall has claimed 223 lives while another 295 have been injured in Himachal Pradesh so far this season.Extremely heavy rainfalls have triggered landslides across Himachal Pradesh and according to state authorities; more than 200 roads throughout the state remain inaccessible. Amid heavy downpours, Himachal Pradesh police have issued an advisory to its citizens asking them to avoid unessential travel in the wake of landslides.
