Lighting strikes St. Lawrence Church, tower destroyed

The Church rests in the hills of Sinquerim - Candolim. It is a 400 year old Church and has no lightning rod. The tower was struck by lighting 2 days ago during a thunderstorm.

The strike was so severe, that the tower broke into pieces.

Many Churches in the past have been left similarly damaged after being struck by lightning. Due to the height of the towers, churches are attracting lightning. 

There is great need for installation of lightning conductors here.

A request in this regard will be made before disaster management, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo said.
