Goa receives heavy showers with some urban areas getting waterlogged

Goa received heavy showers on Tuesday with some areas in urban centres getting inundated. There was a landslide on the Chorla Ghat. Traffic was disrupted and it took more than three hours to clear the road.



Cyclonic circulations prevails  over the north-east Arabian Sea off South Gujarat and Maharashtra coast. During the next 24 hours, light to moderate rains with  few heavy spells are expected over Vidarbha, coastal Karnataka, Konkan and Goa.


Bicholim town too received heavy showers with some areas  in the town getting flooded. Bicholim river gets silted  as the mining residue washes into the river. Water Resources Department on Tuesday switched on the heavy duty pumps to empty the water into Valvanti river.  


There was a landslide at Chorla Ghat on Tuesday. As the soil was loosened due to heavy showers, trees got uprooted and came  down on along with the  trees. The road was blocked for traffic. More than two hour later work was going on to clear the road for traffic. Chorla Ghat road connects Goa to Belgavi town.


Margao too received good showers but  the town roads were not inundated, indicating the drainages had been cleared.
