Day 2: Berger Paints factory fire continues, navy, army aid efforts

11 Jan 2023 07:23 PM

The fire which engulfed the Berger paints factory yesterday afternoon continues to burn even today as firefighters from the state department, Navy and Army continue their efforts.

While the fire has been brought under control, the health hazards posed by the fumes still continue to threaten locals in Pilerne. Here’s from our report Sameep Narvekar.

Following news of the fire, the DHS yesterday evening released a health advisory that has been extended by another day. The advisory lays out basic do’s and don’ts. Such as no wearing of masks,

keeping homes ventilated, and those suffering from asthma, and lung diseases within 2 kms of the factory to relocate were some of the advisories

Firefighters say the fire was brought under control early today morning, however, the collapsed debris has made it hard for firefighters to get to the fire raging in the basement.

IDC chairman AlexioReginaldo, who has been closely monitoring the site, said that things are under control. However, he has asked firefighters to carry out the fight slowly but safely.

Sandeep Bandodkar of the Reis Magos ZP meanwhile said that people residing close to the fire have moved away.
