The fire which broke out at the Berge Paints factory in Pilerne has prompted the government to seek better safety measures for those residing near industrial estates. While the Chief Minister has said an investigation into the matter has begun, many now want such industries to be relocated.

Calangute MLA Michael Lobo on Monday said that this is the second time such an incident of fire in an industrial estate with houses just a few meters away has occurred.

Lobo further went on to add water sources near the villages of Candolim and Pilerne are polluted with reports from the Goa State Pollution Control Board being awaited

The delegations of Candolim and Pilerne panchayat along with the Reis Magos Zilla parishadmet the chief minister to raise concerns about such hazardous factories near houses. Here’s what they had to say.
