Ever since mining had been banned in the state, tourism took over as the backbone of the state’s economy. However, the state’s tourist season was dealt a major blow after the Indian High Commission began enforcing a rule that requires British citizens to attend visa centers in-person, causing wait times for tourists looking to travel to India.

Goa which heavily relies on tourism for its economy, was dealth a serious blow after several chatered flights from the UK had been canceled.

The scrapping of online visas by the central government was a tit-for-tat move in retaliation to Indians facing the exact same issue while visiting UK. However, this has led to a major impact on tourism here in the state

The opposition and tourism stakeholders have hit out at the government fearing a major setback to the already weakened tourism sector.
