Landry Mascarenhas, backed by the Congress, has been elected as the new chairperson of the Cuncolim Municipal Council following a landslide victory after the ousting of former Chairperson LaxmanNaik in a no-confidence motion.

With a landslide victory of 9 against 3, Landry Mascarenhas defeated BJP Councilor Vishal Desai to become the new chairperson of the Cuncolim MMC after 2 out of the 5BJP councilors remained absent. The Cuncolim MMC has a strength of 14 council members. LaxmanNaik, the former Cuncolim chairperson was ousted in the last week of June following a no-confidence motion.
