The Congress Party on Monday went on a day long hunger strike to protest against the policies BJP government at the Centre and promote communal harmony and peace across the country.

Party leaders condemned the killing of 9 dalit activists in police firing during the recent Bharat Bandh.

This is part of the country wide protest called by the National Congress President Rahul Gandhi to protest against the Narendra Modi government and non-functioning of Parliament. The hunger strike was held at Azad Maidan, Panaji.

The Congress leaders present led by the GPCC president Shantaram Naik and CLP leader Babu Kawlekar tore into the ruling BJP calling them divisive and against the downtrodden.

The aim of the strike is to highlight the failure of the Centre to hold a discussion in Parliament on key issues such as the CBSE paper leak, the multi-crore PNB scam, Cauvery issue and Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh.
