CONG FILES DISQUALIFICATION AGAINST DEFECTING 8

14 Nov 2022 06:21 PM

The hearing on disqualification petition filed against 8 Congress MLAs who joined the BJP will be held in next 15 days. The matter is complicated and needs to be studied in depth, Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar says.

This disqualification petition by the Congress is against 8 of their Congress MLAs who merged into BJP a couple of months back. In the last term the party had also filed a disqualification petition against 10 MLAs who had defected to the ruling party.

However, this last petition was quashed by the High Court months before the 2022 assembly elections. When Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar was questioned on this  fresh disqualification petition, he said that he would issue a notice to both parties and ensure that there is no delay in the hearing.

Meanwhile, the new disqualification petition was filed by former GPCC President Girish Chodankar on personal level not on the party level. The Congress party will file its disqualification petition in coming next week, GPCC President Amit Patkar and Congress MLA Carlos Fereira said.
