CAA defeats the very idea of India: Adv Coutinho

Constitutional expert Advocate Cleofato Coutinho said from 1950 citizenship to a foreigner was given if he or she was persecuted in their country regardless of the religiion; it was never based on religion. He said the new law Citizenship amendment Act is defeating the very idea of India.

Advocate Coutinho was speaking at a function organised by concerned citizens of Goa to understand the Citizenship Amendment Act on Saturday in Fatorda.

He said the new citizenship law must go; it is in the hands of the people or Supreme Court to strike down this law.
