State govt can't give EC, can grant leases only through auction route: Environmentalist

There was a buzz after the hype of one mine being given permission to operate and environment clearances to be given at state level.

But environmentalist Ramesh Gawas says this is illegal and impossible.

As the Supreme Court had ruled out that that no mining leases exist in the state.

Also any new leases can only be granted through the auction route.

After the government gave permission to one mine belonging to Nathuramal Mining company to restart mining, CEO of tht company Haresh Melwani had said that he will be able to get environment clearances and other permissions from the local government by the end of monsoon.

Environmentalist Ramesh Gawas spoke exclusively to Goa365 and said that this activity has no meaning.

He said even if the state government permits mining activity at the Sakhli mine the issue will end up in a court.

Ramesh termed the action of the government a litmus test to see if it works.
