MINING TO RESTART?

The chief minister has promised on the floor of the house to auction mining leases within the next 2-3 months. This issue came up in the assembly especially after a spate of retrenchments after mining lease holders were asked to vacate the leases that they were occupying for so long.

Bicholim MLA Chandrakant Shetye raised the issue of retrenchment of mining workers by Vedanta mining company and asked what government steps have taken to give them justice given that the retrenchment has done on the lines of order issued by the Mines and Geology Department. Chief Minister spoke on restarting and retrenchment of workers.

Meanwhile, Congress MLA Carlos Alvares Ferreira has asked government to explore other options to restart mines instead of leasing them out. Listen to him and then the reply of Chief Minister.
