HC rejects miners’ plea to restart ore transport, Govt cries of catching off guard

The High Court has refused to modify its order of stopping the iron ore transport.

It has rejected the plea of mining lease holders, who rushed to the court on Thursday.

On the other hand, the government is crying over catching them off guard on this issue.

3 mining companies approached the High Court on Thursday asking to allow functioning of barges and transportation saying that they had ore stocked on jetties.

But the High Court refused to entertain them asking them to approach the Supreme Court for relief. Goa Foundation’s Claude Alvares spoke to Goa365 about the turn of events.

Raising serious concerns over the court’s order, Vijai Sardesai says it’s a matter of huge concern. And the government had not even anticipated the court to stop the transportation.

The government has now written to eminent Lawyer Harish Salve seeking a legal opinion on this issue. Based on his legal opinion will the state government decide its next plan of action.
