Claude Alvares has promised all help to mining workers, retrenched or otherwise, and stakeholders who had come to meet him on Monday.

He said that they should all go to the chief minister, mines minister, mines secretary and ask them why the government has not used crores of rupees recovered from illegal mining was not used for the welfare of mining dependents, including the workers.

Claude whose NGO Goa Foundation was instrumental in bringing these mining illegalities by various companies from under the carpet said that due to GF actions more than 1200 crore rupees were recovered and deposited in the state exchequer.

He asked why this money that was supposed to have taken care of all mining dependents was instead used by the government to build bridges, widening roads at the cost of these mining stakeholders.

He wanted to know whether they were willing to be with him or wanted to go back to the mining companies to get their economic vehicle moving again.
