Sancoale Bay a biodiversity hotspot, marina not an option, says Cortalim MLA

12 Jan 2019 04:38 PM

Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha has opposed the plans to set up a marina at Sancoale Bay.

She has called it a biodiversity hotspot.

Ironically, she also says that she is not against marinas per se.

The Investment Promotion Board Sub-Committee is studying the feasibility of setting up marinas.

The Local MLA recting to that news, said that Sancoale Bay has to be declared as a protected area as it is the only breeding ground for the Schedule IV Windowpane oysters in the whole of Asia.

Also the different species of shellfish found there are a source of livelihood to villagers.
