Locals from Usgao and Khandepar expressed fear over flooding in low-lying areas of Usgaon and Khandepar as digging work is being carried out at the plant along the banks of Opa river overthe last 8 days. Environmentalists, meanwhile are crying foul over the ongoing work.

Digging has been ongoing along the Opa Plant site for last eight days. The excavated mud is discharged into the river, due to which the river water has turned red over last 7 to 8 days.

Locals are demanding that instead of dumping the mud in the river, it should be loaded onto a truck and deposited elsewhere.

Environmentalist Sandeep Parkar says the river is already filled with mud and silt. Therefore, if more mud is deposited into the river, it will have an impact on the environment, leading to Floods in the low-lying areas of Usgao and Khandepar areas. Here’s what Sandeep Parkar had to say.
