The Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Tuesday launched an electric bus on trial basis.

This bus can run for 300 kilometres on a single charge and is pollution free besides being silent.

After trials of biogas and ethanol-run buses, the electric bus is the third type of renewable energy-run bus.

The government will negotiate with the company to buy around 50 more buses.

The government will pay the company around 60 rupees per kilometer.

These electric buses are manufactured by a Hyderabad-based company Goldstone Infratech in technical collaboration with Chinese company Byd Auto Industries Company limited.

Present at the launch were Transport Minister Sudin Dhavlikar, KTCL chairman Carlos Almeida, President of Goldstone Infratech Naga Satyam and others.

The trial of electric bus will be for one and half months.

The battery charging takes around five hours.

The electric buses are already running in other parts of the country.
