To avoid Cortalim diversion, Govt trying for a parallel road

You may not have to travel from Madgao to Panaji via Vasco for almost a year.

But only if local farmers of Kuthali lease out their fields to build a parallel road from Kuthali circle to Sharayu Toyota showroom at Verna.

But no diverting traffic till 16th of January.

And to take a final decision, a high level committee of ministers and MLAs will visit the site on Sunday.

Daily commuters from Madgao to Panaji and vice versa are panic because they will have to take a diversion via Vasco, travelling 18 kilometers of additional distance.

Almost one lakh vehicles will have to do this exercise every day for minimum one year.

Because the overbridge connecting new Zuari bridge has to place cantilever girders for one and a half kilometre of distance.

To find an amicable solution, a high level committee led by PWD minister Sudin Dhavalikar met on Friday at Porvorim Secretariat.

Ministers Vijai Sardesai and Mauvin Godinho as well as Kuthali MLA Alina Saldanha attended the meeting.

Ministers said this precaution is taken for the safety of the people and not for the benefit of the contractor.
