As accidents continue to rise in the state, the Director General of Police, Jaspal Singh stressed that efforts have to come in from the transport department and not just the police. Ensuring proper training and knowledge prior to being awarded their licenses must be a priority of the RTO, mere challans will not help improve the situation, the DGP stressed.

DGP’S STATEMENTS:

ROAD SAFETY A MULTI-DEPARTMENTAL EFFORT

TRANSPORT DEPT MUST ENSURE LICENSEES APTLY TRAINED

POLICE ONLY TO ENFORCE LAW

OVER 10,000 LICENSES SUSPENDED FOR SPEEDING, OTHER OFFENSES

RTO RESPONSIBLE FOR ISSUING LICENSE

MOST CHALLANS AGAINST YOUTH

PARENTS AND TEACHERS NEED TO HAMMER IN ROAD SAFETY AMONG YOUTH

Clarifying rumors that tourists are responsible for most accidents in the state, DGP Jaspal Singh asserted that data does not support the claim and that most accidents are caused by the local population itself. Further adding that nearly 60% are due to negligent driving.
