Mopa, GSDP, Road infra lauded by Governor during assembly speech amid opposition ruckus

On the first day of the Assembly’s winter session, Governor P S Shreedharan Pillai lauded the infrastructure development in Goa in terms of road and air connectivity while also praising the government on steady increase in the State’s GSDP during his address to the Assembly. However, the governor didn’t speak on the currentMhadei issue.



The 8Th legislative assembly session began with the Governor’s address on Monday morning. The governor highlighted the achievement of the government in various departments, fields and sectors. Governor said The Gross State Domestic Product for the year 2021-22  is estimated at Rs 82,603 crore, with a current growth rate of 9.11%. The speech however was echoed by the opposition sloganeering on Mhadei.

-It portrays a vigorous and healthy economy

-GSDP of the State for the year 2021-22 (Quick) is estimated at Rs 82,603.70 crore at Current Price

-It registers growth rate of 9.11%.

-GSDP for the years 2022-23 (Advanced estimates) and 2023-24 (Projected estimates) at Current prices registered a growth rate of 9.73% and 10.33%

-The State has been ranked at 5th position in the India Innovation Index 2021 published by NITI Aayog

Manohar International Airport is going to be a game changer for the tourism sector in the State. Air connectivity to Goa from within and outside India will improve significantly, boosting tourism andexport. More than 6000 people will get direct and indirect employment, the Governor said.

-The airport can handle all types of aircraft including wide bodied aircraft.

-Airport has capacity to handle 4.4 million passengers initially

-It can be scaled up to 33 million per annum

-Airport’s cargo terminal to handle 25,000 metric tonnes per annum

-It can be increased to 1.5 lakh metric tonnes per annum

-More than 6000 people will get direct and indirect employment

-The airport has Aviation Skill Development Centre to train youth for employability

Speaking on road infrastructure Governor said the Left Hand Side corridor of the new Zuari bridge is underway and is likely to be opened to traffic by the end of 2023. The four laning of the National Highway from Patradevi to Margao Western Bypass is likely to be completed by end of 2023. The six lane expressway connecting NH-66 to Manohar International Airport, Mopa is scheduled to be completed by October 2023.
