Many Goans are willing to donate their organs to the needy people, but Goa government has still not set up the required structure and facilities.

Even enough awareness has not been made. After having an eye bank by Rotary Club, Goa also needs to have a skin bank.

This is the conclusion the Federation of Organ and Body Donation has reached when their padyatra from Mumbai concluded in Goa on organ and body donation.

The 52-day rally on feet by the Federation travelled all along the Konkan coast and Goa state from Mumbai, covering almost 60 villages.

In Goa, they have set up a branch of the Federation with Umesh Dhavalikar as the coordinator, who has benefited from liver transplant.

Mohan Rao from Madgao is another coordinator. Federation founder Purushottam Pawar and treasurer Mira Suresh are in the forefront of this awareness campaign.

The padyatra reached Goa in the background of a controversy that has erupted in Goa with Manipal hospital retrieving organs from the patient who was declared brain dead, but the organs were flown to Mumbai and were not made available to the needy patients at the Goa Medical College hospital.

Both Pawar and Mira highlighted several facilities which Goa lacks in organ donation.
