AITUC to hold mass public rally on Labour Day

The all India trade union congress is set to celebrate may day, also known as labour day by holding a mass public rally from KTC Bus stand to the Panjim Church Square. The union aims to highlight the working class’s struggles with low income and long hours

While Goa is one of the states with the highest per capita income rate, the lower and middle working-class citizens have struggled for better wages for years. While unemployment itself has been an issue plaguing the state, minimum wages too have been on the mum for years now with the rate staying the same for 6 years now.

Minimum wages which are set at around 307 rupees for unskilled labour in the state are nearly half of the other states such as Kerela which pays roughly 700 rupees. However, despite the low wages, some industries are paying their labour force below minimum wages by hiring labour from remote areas of the country.

AITUC meanwhile will be holding a rally from KTC Bus stand to Panjim Church Square to raise the issue of the problems faced by the labour force and make the government aware of their struggles.
