Last day of nominations for municipal elections to Ponda, Sanquelim

Electioneering for two municipalities is reaching the final stretch with today being the last day for nominations. Sankhalim and Ponda municipalities will go to the polls on May 5thand counting on May 7th. The BJP leadership had come out saying that both these elections would be fought on party basis. Let’s take a look at the preparations of both municipalities.

Sanquelim municipal elections should have been in the spotlight. Especially given that the present Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant is the MLA of this constituency and his victory margin was quite thing in the last elections held a year ago

.  As of today around 57 candidates have filed their nomination for the 12 wards. The scrutinywill be held tomorrow and Wednesday is the last chance to withdraw applications. Let’s see if these polls too become a battle between Congress’ Dharmesh Saglani and the Chief Minister.

And now let’s look at the situation in Ponda. A total of 61 applications have been received for the Ponda municipality. The polls are expected to be a battle between BJP, Congress and MGP candidates. 16 nominations were received today
