There is a speculation that it could take three to five years for the mining to start again in Goa. But chief minister Manohar Parrikar claims it would start in 6 months.

And he is exploring all the possibilities and options to ensure that mining continues. But even if it starts, Speaker Pramod Sawant feels that  mining would never be the same anymore. Goans should thus look for other options.

The Supreme Court ordered that the 88 leases that were renewed be quashed. And the whole procedure be redone following procedures. Also recovery proceedings against errant mine operators be begun. There is a feeling that this could deal a body blow to mining in Goa.

On the business as usual message about mining, maybe not everybody is on the same page. Or is the chief minister just trying to soften the blow?

The chief minister told reporters that they had already started recovery proceedings even before the Apex court’s Wednesday order.

The chief minister said that as far as the economic impact to the state was concerned, it could mitigated even though  it would be around 3-400 crore Rs.

The chief minister said that companies were free to export the ore that was already extracted.

GCCI chief, CA Sandip Bhandare  spoke to Goa 365 on his views about the mining issue.
