Wearing 'kopelam', jumping in the wells, Viva Sao Joao!

The feast of St John the Baptist was celebrated with great fervour all over the state.



A host of programmes and revelries were organized as part of the festival.

The feast of St John is popularly known as Sao Joao in Konkani.  

In Carambolim,  Saint John the Baptist is the patron saint and the feast is celebrated with extra enthusiasm.

St John the Baptist feast is mainly associated with water as the saint  used to baptize people in River Jordan.

Newly married couples are supposed to offer fruits and eatables to celebrate their marriage in their first year.
