Student wings of Congress, Nationalist Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party have now joined hands to demand open elections for student council of the Goa University.

BJP’s students’ wing is open for any system. They want the University to implement the recommendations of Lingdoh Commission regarding the election process.

These student wings jointly submitted a memorandum of their demand regarding the election process to Vice Chancellor Varun Sahani on Friday.

These students say the ruling party irrespective of which one is in power uses the current election process to manipulate the representatives by threatening them.

So what exactly is the open election system? How is it different from current existing election system?

Ironically, these student leaders affiliated to wings of political parties say it will decrease the direct political interference in the elections.

On the other hand, the student’s wing of the BJP says they are okay with any system of election. They have expressed confidence that they will win even with open election system.
