Rahul agrees to alliance ‘in principle’, Sonia’s nod awaited

Rahul Gandhi has agreed for Congress having alliance with other parties like Goa Forward and United Goans of Babush Monseratte



But the Central Election Committee headed by Sonia Gandhi is yet to approve it. Goa Forward leader Vijai Sardesai is happy that there is ‘in principle’ agreement. But the  final decision is still awaited.

Tuesday was a hectic day for the Congress in Delhi. After the second round of meeting of the screening committee, leaders like Pratapsing Rane and Digambar Kamat met Rahul Gandhi and pressed for alliance. But it was limited only to Goa Forward and the UGP, the NCP was not in picture. Sources of Goa 365 confirmed that Rahul Gandhi agreed to it ‘in principle’, but leaving final decision to the CEC headed by his mother Sonia.The outcome of the CEC was not known till this news went on air on Tuesday evening.

Sources in the Congress told Goa 365 that Rahul Gandhi has agreed to the proposal of Congress supporting Babush Monseratte in Panaji, provided his other three candidates contest on Congress ticket. These are:


Jennifer Monseratte                      Taleigao

Francis Silveira                                   St Andre

Tony Fernandes                                               St Cruz

According to our sources, Rahul Gandhi earlier agreed to have alliance with Goa Forward, before the Central Election Committee could meet late evening. The screening committee agreed to allot four seats to Goa Forward. Names of three among them were agreed upon.These are:

Vijai Sardesai                     Fatorda

Jayesh Salgaonkar           Saligao

Vinod Palayekar                               Siolim

Goa Forward leader Vijai Sardesai also confirmed the news of Goa 365. But he expressed total ignorance over number of seats and candidates.
