National Students Union of India, the students’ wing of Congress has demanded resignation of Vice Chancellor of the Goa University, Professor Varun Sahani.

They along with students’ cells of Nationalist Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, Shiv Sena and others have threatened to intensify the agitation against Goa University with a demand to scrap the University Students Council election.

These students unions jointly marched to the Goa University Administrative Complex on Monday. They were accompanied by some Youth Congress leaders. The campus was locked and heavy police force was deployed for controlling the Law & Order situation.

Students requested a meeting with the VC who initially refused to entertain them. Attempt by representatives of students’ wings to enter the Administration Complex almost turned into a brawl.

They were later given entry into the premises where they had talks with VC varun Sahani but in vain. The student leaders said they were humiliated by the VC.

They also said not allowing the media into the cabin of VC during their meeting with his was an attempt to curb the freedom & rights of the Press.

Meanwhile, as expected BJP Students’ Cell won the elections of Goa University Students Council totally unopposed.

The newly elected council will be headed by Urvesh Redkar Velingkar. Nishikar Raut Desai will be the Secretary of the council. BJP Students’ Cell has backed the election process of the Goa University.
