Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho has predicted that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar will win the Panaji bye election with a margin of more than 7000 votes.

Congress, however, expressed confidence of winning both the seats.

Mauvin said some more Congress  MLAs are already feeling suffocated within the party and would like to join the BJP.

He however said the BJP does not want to encourage defections.

Leader of Opposition and Congress MLA Babu Kavlekar has questioned as to why the coalition partners of the BJP are extending support to BJP candidate Manohar Parrikar in Panaji.

He wondered whether it is because the BJP is not confident of winning.

Goa Forward leader and TCP minister Vijai Sardessai said they have not campaigned much for Parrikar but that they were forced to come to Panaji and extend support to him. he said the Congress leaders were questioning their absence.
