The government will bring in a law to ban swimming on Goan beaches after 7 in the evening in a bid to control instances of drowning.

Cooking on the beaches will also be a thing of the past if the government is to be believed.

The decision was taken at a meeting of all tourism stakeholders headed by the chief minister Manohar Parrikar.

The meeting also appointed a committee headed by hotelier Babu Keni and including Cruz Cardozo of the shack owners association and the SP looking after the coastal belt to keep track on implementation, which has always been a weak point.

The committee is to submit reports every 15 days. The meeting also decided to issue media advisories to hotels asking them to inform their guests about these restrictions.

The Tourism minister Babu Ajgaokar said that the police have been issued strict instructions to not allow out of station busses passengers to cook on the beaches.

The Tourism Minister said that they would also start tightening up action against street any hawkers.

He said that these instructions had been relayed to the police by the Chief minister Manohar Parrikar himself at the meeting that included shack owners, TTAG members, and police.
