The holding of panchayat elections one month after its term ends has become the issue of controversy.

Congress has strongly objected to the government decision of holding elections almost one month late.

The State Election Commission had also suggested to hold it before the term ends. The ball is now thrown in the court of law.

The GPCC delegation under the leadership of President Luizinofaleiro met the State Election Commission on Thursday morning and submitted a representation.

They have demanded that the elections for the panchayatsshould be held in May as per earlier decision.

They have also strongly objected to announcement of election dates by the Chief Minister.

Goa 365 also spoke to State Election Commissioner R K Shrivastava to know whose prerogative it is to decide and declare the date of panchayat elections. This is what he informed.
