The civil aviation ministry has given a written assurance that Dabolim airport would continue to function even after Mopa airport becomes functional.

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar tabled this letter on the floor of the House on Tuesday.

The demand was made by NCP MLA Churchill Alemao.

Dabolim airport is currently handling 7.8 million passengers annually.

It is four times more than the actual capacity of 2.7 million passengers.

Mopa is being projected to handle 4.4 million passengers in the first phase.

And still there would be shortfall of 3 million passengers.

That would be handled by Dabolim. Churchill as well as Goa Forward minister Vijai Sardesai are happy with this letter.

Both are strong proponents of Dabolim airport.
