Can Vishwajeet be barred from contesting for 5 years?

The Congress is exploring the possibility of filing disqualification petition against Vishwajeet Rane, so that he cannot contest for the next five years.

But legal luminaries are divided over the possibility.

The main ground for the disqualification is that Vishwajeet defied the party whip  and did not vote.

And if Vishwajeet is disqualified on this ground, then he cannot contest during the term of this Assembly. But there are differing views on this provision.

Former union law minister Ramakant Khalap feels it may not be possible. Constitutional expert Cleofato Almeida Coutinho says it is possible.
