BJP to decide fate of Shet and Tawadkar in Delhi; Madkaikar, Velip cleared

The fate of two sitting MLAs – speaker Anant Shet and minster Ramesh Tawadkar – will be now decided by the Parliamentary Board in Delhi.

The state election committee has sent names of remaining 15 constituencies to the Parliamentary Board. It will meet on 11th of January in the evening.

Party’s Co-Convenor Premanand Mhambrey on Monday confirmed with the media that some of the constituencies have two and even three names.

Though he refused to disclose any information, sources have confirmed that the state election committee has cleared three crucial names of Scheduled Tribe community – sitting MLA Ganesh Gaonkar from Savoddem, former MLA Prakash Velip from Quepem and Pandurang Madkaikar from Cumbarjuve, who came from the Congress.

This has created a major hurdle for sitting Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar since another ex-MLA Vijay Pai Khot is also tipped for the candidature.

Similarly, sources say that Congressman Pravin Zantye’s name has also been sent for the Mayem constituency to the Parliamentary Board, along with sitting MLA Anant Shet.

Sources also said they have cleared single names in many other constituencies. Prominent among them are Pradeep Shet in Madkai, Ramarao Wagh in St Andre, Vishwajeet Krishnrao Rane in Parye and Satyavijay Naik in Valpoi. But Mhambrey was non-committal on anything. This is what he told the media.
