The state recently observed 7th state road safety week. But are our roads really safe?

A weird accident on the Sancoale Chikhali road stretch on the National Highway 17 has led to questions regarding the safety of commuters travelling on the Highway.

A coconut tree collapsed on a two-wheeler rider on Saturday after which he was severely injured; locals have thus raised concerns regarding their safety and security due to no protective wall near these trees.

The incident occurred on Saturday. A coconut tree collapsed on the road directly and injured a two-wheeler rider.

He was later attended by a 108 ambulance. Locals say the authorities have dug up this road stretch for expansion of National Highway but the trees on top are posing a threat since there is no protective wall or any barricades.

They say since the roots have become weak due to less amount of soil, more trees are likely to fall and that too directly on the highway.
