Paddi, Barcem and Khola villagers came out on the road on Tuesday to oppose a proposed fish meal plant to be set up in their villages.

The villagers including  panchayat members on Tuesday gheraoed and held hostage Goa State Pollution Control Board officials for over two hours.

Villagers were upset that the panchayat body was not informed about the fish meal project and the decisions and the permissions on this were percolating from the top instead of the other way.

According to the villagers, if the plant was setup in the area it would pollute a water body that is around 100 metres from the proposed plant and the villages depend on as a water source. Also the smell would be unbearable.
