No river nationalization, rivers of ‘national importance’: CM

15 Nov 2017 08:09 PM

Chief minister Manohar Parrikar said that there is nothing called nationalization of rivers planned or envisaged.

He told the media on Wednesday after the cabinet briefing that the Central Act only spoke about 5 Goan rivers being named as rivers of national importance.

They are not going to be nationalized. The centre would help to maintain and develop them.

The issue of river nationalization had become hot topic in the state in the recent past.

There was all sorts of opposition across the state to this with the government coming under lots of pressure on the issue.

The GCCI has backed the centre in the issue of rivers nationalization.

However, they said this was not nationalization per se but only was just development of the rivers.

And this would benefit the people.
