Issuing of liquor licenses to 1200 outlets to begin on Tuesday

The government will start the process of issuing liquor permits to around 1200 outlets within municipal limits from Tuesday.

After this there will be another 1000 outlets that will come under the purview of the Supreme Court order banning sale of liquor within 500 mts from national and state highways.

At least 3200 outlets were initially affected after the order by the apex court banning liquor being sold from 220 to 500 mts from the highways.

First 950 outlets within panchayat limits of less than 20,000 people were removed from the list. Now another 1200 will escape the ban.

The liquor traders said that the government should file a review petition in the apex court to try and remove the balance 1000 outlets from the purview of the ban.
