Cong demands rollback on hike in electricity bills, gheraos officials

Congress party workers led by AICC secretary Girish Chodankar and including Mahila chief Pratima Coutinho gheraoed Chief Electrical Engineer Neelakanta Reddy protesting against the addition of Fuel Power Purchase & Cost Adjustment charges to the electricity bills.

Reddy promised to send a note to government recommending withdrawal of such charges.

These FCCPA charges amount to almost a third of the electricity bill amounts. People have been getting bills that are double or even three times their usual bills.

Power Minister Pandurang Madkaikar had recently said that power tariff was hiked due to payment of 93 crore rupees towards the Fuel Power Purchase & Cost Adjustment.

He said that if anything goes above the approved cost, it had to be recovered from consumers as per the terms and conditions specified in the FPPCA Formula.
