Capital dredging has had no effect on Vasco shoreline: MPT

Chairman of Mormugao Port Trust I Jeyakumar has said the MPT’s capital dredging has had no effect on the state shoreline. He said no erosion has taken place due to the works.



He said the report prepared by the National Institute of Oceanography on shoreline monitoring has revealed this

. Jeyakumar  said the study was carried out through beach profile measurements at about 44 cross sections covering both the North and South Goa beaches.

The MPT chairman said there were apprehensions in the minds of the people about the erosion and effect on the shoreline due to capital dredging.

The NIO carried out a shoreline monitoring study at the request of the MPT  to assess the same in a  scientific manner. He however said that continuous monitoring of these beach stretches is required at least for a period of another 2 years.
