The Supreme Court order of shutting down liquor outlets along the state and national highways would not affect the prime tourist areas or towns of Goa, but mostly 70 per cent of the interior Goa, located in the villages

The eight state highways of Goa pass through the hinterland, mining villages and even the wild life sanctuaries.

The state highways joining the neighbouring states are two in North Goa and one in the South.

One road is from Assnora to Dodamarg via Kasarpal joining Maharashtra.

The second  state highway passes through Mhadei sanctuary, from Sankhli to Chorle Ghat via Poriem and Keri, joining Karnataka. And the third state highway in the South touches the Netravali wild life sanctuary. T

his road starts from Borim and goes to Sanguem via Bori, Shiroda, Panchwadi and Sanvordem. It goes and touchesDiggi Ghat of Karnataka through the wild life sanctuary, 30 kilomteres inside from Sanguem town in the jungle areas called Patiem and Zuna. Forget bars, there are only two houses of Velip community in Zuna.

There are also two more INTERIOR roads like these, which are called the State Highways. Both these roads are in South Goa.

One road is from Dharbandora to Kudchade via Savargal and Sanvordem. Another one is from Madgao to Curchorem, but NOT via Kepem. It’s via Nessai, St Jose de Areal and Chandor.

There also three other main roads in the North and South Goa.

A road from Cuchelim in Bardez to Thivim, Assnora, Mulgao, Bicholim, Sankhli, Honda up to Valpoi.

Another mining area road from Honda, Velguem,Palli, Usgao up to Piliem, little before the Sanjivani Sugar factory or Dharbandora. The third main road is from Ponda to Madgao, via Bori, Raia and Arlem.

Besides this, there are also two national highways.

The National Highway 17 is from Pedne to Kankon via Mapusa, Panaji, Madgao and Cuncolim.

Thethe four lane road from Verna to Vasco via Daboli airport is the National Highway 17B. Also the road from Panaji to Molem via Ponda is the National Highway 4A.

According to Excise Commissioner Menino D’Souza, the taluka committees have till now identified 3500 liquor outlets along these roads.

It practically covers 70 per cent of interior Goa, but neither the towns like Mapusa, Panaji, Madgao or Vasco as well as the prime tourist belt like Calangute and Baga in  Bardez or the five start hotels located all along the coast of Salcete.

These small liquor outlets would be issued notices once the core committee compiles the full list.
