HJS demands ban on paper-pulp Ganapati idols in Goa

Hindu Janajagruti has called for a ban on paper pulp Ganesh idols in Goa.

Its coordinator has said the paper pulp is highly polluting material.

The organization has asked the Election Commission to change the date of bye polls  as it clashes with a major Hindu festival Chovoth.

Hindu Janajagruti Samiti had filed a public interest litigation  with National Green Tribunal against the decision of the Maharashtra government for permitting Ganesh idols made of paper pulp.

The NGT has brought a stay on this decision. Hindu Janajagruti Samiti Coordinator Dr Manoj Solanki demanded that Goa government should ban idols made of paper pulp.

He said ten kilograms of paper pulp  pollutes 1000 litres of water.

Dr Manoj has asked the Election Commission to change the date of the bye elections scheduled to  be held on the 23rd of this month in Goa as  it  clashes with Chovoth.

The celebration of Chovoth begins on the 25th of August.
