Ground handling staff at Dabolim airport hold protest

A flash protest by ground staff of a cargo handling company at the Dabolim airport threatened to disrupt flights. But the situation was brought under control by police on Sunday.

The airport police brought both sides to the negotiating table and ensured that the protesting workers went back on duty. However, the grievances are still to be redressed.

The management denied that there was a strike and sought to explain it as some confusion created by some disgruntled elements. They said the disgruntled elements incited the workers after they were disciplined by their supervisors.

But the workers had a different story to tell. They alleged that they were being bullied to keep quiet and said that they were going back on duty as the management has promised to hold a meeting with them to solve their grievances.

They told Goa 365 that the management is trying to force out locals to accommodate manpower from outside the state.

Surprisingly, a management representative admitted that workers were only given half an hour for lunch while a worker alleged that they had paid to get the job.
