07 Aug 2017 08:45 PM

Goa has lost revenue of almost 333 crore of rupees on mining when mining was at its peak in Goa.

This has been pointed out in the latest report of Comptroller and Auditor General of India.

It was tabled on the last day of the Assembly on Monday.

This is the CAG report audited during 2015-16, but lists out cases from 2009 to 2013.

It is not known how much revenue has been subsequently recovered by Goa government after the Supreme Court intervened while mining was banned in Goa since 2012.

But this is the break-up the CAG report provides.

The leaseholders did not disclose the iron extracted and the mining department failed to recover this amount from the leaseholders.

The total amount is 118 crore rupees and the iron ore was around 27 lakh metric tonnes.

There are total 6 cases identified in the CAG report.

The CAG has also pointed out total 15 cases, where no royalty was paid to the tune of around 54 crore rupees.

Almost 112 lakh metric tonnes of iron ore was exported without paying royalty.

Similarly, neither stamp duty nor registration fee of around 160 crore rupees was paid by some leaseholders.

This quantity of iron ore was around 154 lakh metric tonnes.

The CAG has also observed that the mining department did not recover the interest of almost one crore rupees on the late payments made by the leaseholders.
