The gram sabha of Curca, Bambolim Telaulim village panchayat unanimously resolved to challenge the permission granted for a housing project below the ancient heritage church in the village.

The villagers assert that the area is fragile and prone to landslides. If construction work is carried out on the slope below, the ancient church court could be in danger

The panchayat had rejected the application for construction of bungalows in the area below the church. The builders approached the Director of Panchayats who directed the panchayat to issue the licence within 30 days.

The panchayat approached the District Court. The District Court ruled in favour of the panchayat. The builders then approached the High Court.

The High Court ordered the District Court to revise its decision. Later, the District Court ruled that the panchayat should obey the order passed by the Director of Panchayats.

The villagers later took media persons to show the construction site and the landslide-prone area. The villagers said they are determined to oppose the construction project.
