How a press-cutting leads to Francis, who is breaking shrines for 14 years

The Goa police certainly needs a pat on their back. Because they have succeeded in arresting a person, who was desecrating the religious shrines in South Goa for the last 15 days.

55-year old Francis Pereira from Kudchade. And he has told the police more than this.

He has been breaking these shrines since 2003. And why? To release the souls trapped in the shrines, graves and even the statues.

Also interesting is how the police started suspecting Francis.

It was a small newspaper cutting which they found in the Guardian Angel Cemetery in Kudchade.

The police are not boasting about it. But Kudchade MLA Nilesh Cabral had all the praises for their investigating mind.

The police followed him on Friday night. And by Saturday before dawn, he was caught red-handed with his private car at Macazana.

He was sometimes illegally running it as a taxi. He confessed and the police also searched his house to get more evidence.

Francis has no regrets for what he has done.

What was the motive? Francis says it’s a secret, but Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar tells his theory of releasing souls from the shrines.
