Tourist arrivals in the state are on the decline. This is official and confirmed by the Tourism and Travel Association of Goa.

The tourism association says that emphasis on Goan food, culture, festivals, music and the original laid back way of life is the way to draw tourists back. But are we going to kill the golden goose?

The culprits for the decline: increased hotel tariffs, garbage everywhere, high taxi fares, cheaper competing destinations, police harassment, unprofessional marketing strategy, driving away of music festivals, and the like. President of TTAG Savio Messias said despite repeated requests, they have not been able to meet the Tourism Minister to convey their grievances.

The TTAG president says that beach weddings bring in a lot of revenue but the licensing procedures are cumbersome in Goa while in Kerala it is negligible.
