Govt cornered by BJP MLAs on Tourism Master Plan

The government was cornered by its own BJP MLA on Wednesday. That too on the question of Goa’a main industry – tourism.

There was an uproar in the House when Aldona MLA Glenn Ticlo alleged that government has paid 3 crore rupees to KPMG whose first report on tourism master plan is nothing but a copy-paste job.

Tourism Minister Babu Azgaonkar has agreed to conduct inquiry into this.

Babu Azgaonkar also could not tell the House when the master plan would be ready.

It takes time because CRZ rules are changing, he claimed.

He was first cornered by BJP MLA Alina Saldanha, then Glenn Ticlo, then Vijai Sardesai and even Pratapsing Rane.

Vijai even asked why government wants to set up Tourism Board when tourism corporation is already functioning.

Aldona MLA Glenn Ticlo and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardessai raised the vital issue of decline in the number of tourists, especially the foreign tourists.

They said charter tourism is down by 25%. And a deficit of 15 lakh tourists.
