Sporting Clube lift AWES Cup

Sporting Clube de Goa scored a solitary goal victory over Salgaocar FC to emerge champions in the AWES Cup. The final match was played at Tilak Maidan, Vasco, on Saturday.



The AWES Cup was organized by the Association for the Wellbeing of Elder Sportspersons in collaboration with the Sports Authority of Goa.


Clive Miranda’s late goal in the 86th minute proved to be the difference in the end as Sporting Clube lived up to their top billing to emerge champions.

Just when it seemed the match would be decided by the tiebreaker, Sporting scored. A corner from Assumption Soares was headed from inside a crowded goalmouth by Miranda for the only goal of the match.


Enock Cudjoe of ONGC was awarded  Mauricio Pinto trophy as the  highest scorer.



Mackroy Peixoto of Salgaocar sports club was awarded Vassu Chodankar trophy as the most valuable player, Clive Miranda of Sporting Clube was awarded the Ashok Mahambre trophy for the best young player, Salgaocar sports club was awarded Jaisinh Maganlal Trophy for fair play and  Conception Pereira was awarded Jose Manuel Esteves trophy as the best voluntary organizer.
